No no,its not a figurative title, its literal..Having said that , letme straight away take a leap to the topic. It was my second day of the second Business trip in Korea South. This time too i was in the same Guesthouse as i was in my first trip. But, in a different building which was more than a kilometer far from the old buidings. They had the cab facility for pick up and drop between these two buildings, because the old building had the restaurant. As always a hero in me said, Hey Achuth, Why cab, when they also give bicycles for commuting!! So took a 'Korean' bicycle .
It was 8:10 pm in SK, so 4:40 pm in India. I was already back in GH, i was hungry too. I decided to go at 830pm. I believe in rounding up things.Okay, when the clock ticked 830, i just left the GH, unlocked my bicycle which had the secret code and started. To reach the old building, it used to take around 5 -10 mins by cycle. but roads werent sane. slopy road was connecting my building to the main road. Slope( i mean tan theta) was close to 1 or more than that.. thats tan 40 to tan 60 :P .. Riding on that slope wasnt a joke. so naturally the speed was high. There came a car with rocket speed afar from a lane connecting to my road. to avoid hitting that, i applied brakes. Sorry i dint know, which was the front brake and the rear brake in 'Korean' bicycle . Dupppppppp..
Accidents always happen in fractions of seconds.. it doesnt last really long like the way car falling from a bridge into the river in the movie INCEPTION.
That second was no more. Then i opened my eyes , Hold on i wasnt lying on a hospital bed, i am not narrating an indian film story :P i had toppled .. My spectacles were missing, blood was out from mouth , ya it was paining too.. but, My immediate concern was my spectacles. I really cant see much without my specs.. I admit that.. Have a short sight of power 4. I started shouting HELP HELP HELP! O bloody time! By then my GH cab driver arrived there , he called someone.. in the mean time i found my specs.. waw. that was a partial relief. Within minutes, another GH staff (Suresh) came over there.. The Best part is he is a tamilian.. Thanks to my linguistic skills , I can speak a good Tamil.. I explained everything to him and we departed from there to hospital.
Suresh is a guy who has settled in SK for 10 years. So he knew the local language. He told me an interesting and shocking fact : In korea hospitals close by 7 pm. I was like WTH(not H actually :P). We went to a clinic sort of thing first wer they just wiped off the blood profusively coming out of lips and nose and stopped blood loss by a tissue tentatively.. Worst part here is none of the doctors, nurses know English!! Yet another WTH.. So Suresh was the translator. They told that both my upper and lower lip were torn and we had to go to a bigger ya BIGGER hospital.. That hospital reminded me of Manipal, wer there is no mercy for the emergency cases and also priority for the queue system and unwanted medical checkups.. Afterall thats how they mint the money albeit Hospitals are business.
After a long wait a real long wait, they stiched my torn part of lower lip.. shocking revealation was part of my tooth was broken.. and also the same tooth was loosened from the jaw. O bloody time..Paid a hefty amount in the hospital and came back.. Next day i had to visit the dentist and they put a clip to my loosened tooth. Paid a huger amount and we were back.. The total money i had shelled out of my pocket was close to 600 USD..
Amidst all these, My lips were swollen like a baloon and disfigured me.. Bad part was i was unable to have food.. I was just on juices and fruits cut in to small pieces. Being a glutton it was very tough with that sort of food. I had to eat something solid. The restuarant was elsewhere thats in the old building. . Shifting to the old building wasnt a joke.. I had to wait for atleast a month because of ppl flowing into the GH was more! Thanks to Sushma, Nandita and GH ppl for making my shift way way easier.. Now that i can get the food to the room and have it slowly which i could not ve done in public.
Support given by Poornima,Swathi Akka, Laxman, Harish, Prateek,Mainak Vishwas, Sundar, was incredible. Thanks ppl. Cooked up some story and told my parents to skirt them from being panic.. It was one hell of bad experience in a foreign land where you dont know the local language.. Thank god i found someone who can help me with the same!!
Next time when you are out of country, be careful ! There ends my long and sad tale of an Accident in korea !
