Attack on freedom of expression is something what I have been hearing incessantly from a week. Yes I am talking about Gauri's death again. The newsrooms and ink media are flooded with the blaming each other[Right Wing and Left Wing]. I have been paying heed to both sides and I am just stuck at extreme fluster about the left wing's baseless allegations on right wing. I am also surprised about the attitude of people who are busy celebrating a brutal murder. Left is tagging the people who are celebrating the murder as right wing extremists. I tag them as people who need a life. However the crux of this piece of writing is to expose the left's hypocrisy.
1. Attack on Freedom of Expression: This rant has been going on across India(width*breadth) from the nanosecond Gauri was killer till this damn nanosecond. I also heard not so soothing infamous "intolerance" . These things again just makes me think why hypocrisy ? I repeat why hypocrisy ?
We all know how Gauri expressed her hatred towards Hindutva,caste-ism and showed her love(lust ?) on minorities like(Christianity, Islam and Dalit etc). Her associates say that she did receive hate messages, threats(rape and murder) from right sect of people. Was she ever arrested or treated brutally by police for her comments ? Nope. In fact she was daring enough to insult the religion of India which is majorly followed(Close to 80%) in front of our Police. Yet Governments did not have any spine to teach her a lesson. Reason ?She is just exercising "freedom of expression". Wah. Now we do exist in same India, where a cartoonist is arrested by Mamata Bannerjee and the left conveniently snubs that away. Last week when Gauri was killed, there were ill minded people who celebrated as "Deserving Death!". I would personally condemn it. But why did government chose to arrest that chap who celebrated ? Wasn't that freedom of expression ? I definitely need to know what is freedom of expression and what is not. The irony here in Karnataka is a media adviser of Karnataka CM Shri Dinesh Amin in a broad daylight says that "Don't you know what happened to Indira Gandhi ? Modi shall have the same brutal death." Dear CM if any guts of you is left anywhere , please take actions on these people around you not on the innocent people.
Close to 100 odd journalists were killed in 2015 in India. I don't recollect if even 10% of the protests happening over last week happened in 2015. What wrong did other truthful journalists do that Gauri did right ? Gauri did not fight for any truth, rather she believed in writing which spreads hatred amongst us.To create sensation the news she started writing was way below the belt . No wonder she did spoil her father's legacy of running newspaper without ads by begging Govt of Karnataka for ads.
2. State Honors for a Convict: This was the second most shocking thing to me after Gauri's death. My understanding is state honors are given to deceased if there is a significant contribution made in various fields like politics, literature, law, science and arts. Generally Chief Minister of the state takes the decision. We all know what "intellectually cozy" equation did Gauri and our CM share with each other. Now the Interesting fact is Gauri was a convict of defamation and was out on bail during her untimely death. I dug a bit in the web to find people who did receive state honors who were not entitled to any office during their time of death. I was surprised to know that Gauri did join the list of MK Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Gangubhai Hangal, Bhimsen Joshi, Bal Thackerey, Sarabjeet Singh! State honours for a convict ? Mr CM you should have been wiser at least for once.
I again hope may justice be brought to Gauri's death !
Signing off.
Achutha
